Dielectric Strength:
Mica has a significantly higher dielectric strength compared to PVC. Mica's dielectric strength typically ranges from 50 to 150 kV/mm, which is much higher than PVC's dielectric strength of around 20-40 kV/mm. This means mica can withstand much higher electric fields without breaking down, making it superior in high-voltage applications.
Thermal Stability:
Mica has a melting point of over 1200°C, making it suitable for high-temperature environments. In contrast, PVC degrades at temperatures around 80°C to 120°C. This indicates that mica is far more durable in conditions of extreme heat.
Chemical and Moisture Resistance:
Mica is chemically inert and does not react with chemicals or absorb moisture, which is a significant advantage over PVC in environments exposed to chemicals or moisture. PVC, while resistant to many chemicals, is not as inert as mica and can degrade over time in certain conditions.
Environmental Durability:
Mica can survive wet, hot, cold, or dry conditions without losing its insulation capability or releasing toxins as it disintegrates. PVC, while also resistant to weather conditions, may not perform as well in extreme temperature variations and can be less environmentally friendly due to the potential release of harmful substances over time.
Longevity and Maintenance:
Mica's exceptional durability under extreme conditions reduces the need for frequent replacements and minimizes maintenance expenses, ensuring longer-lasting products. PVC, while durable, may require more frequent maintenance and replacement, especially in harsher environments.
